| The Life and Times of the "Hammer" I was born at an early age in Bessemer, Al back in June 1943.My Pop worked at Woodward Iron Company and Mom was a work at home mom. Graduated Tarrant High School and marked time. Joined The United States Marine Corps in 1963 and found the lovely Parris Island MCRD. Normal boot camp and advanced stuff, then Air School in Memphis and landed at NAS Mainside Jacksonville, Fla at the MAD(Marine Aviation Detachment)for about two years instructing Reserve in the Art-of-Airplane Repairs/Servicing. After that got my papers to a place called Chu Lai RVN. Arrived Friday October 13th for 13 months. Spent time in Squadron VMA 214 "Blacksheep" of WWII fame. This same named group of Pilots set many records in close air support of the grunts, time in the air, Etc. Then transfered to Squadron VMA 223 "Bulldogs" for more record setting. After time in Chu Lai and DaNang came back to Treasure Island, San Francisco for discharge. After USMC took couple years to get head on straight. Worked all sorts of jobs...Truck driver, Fireman, aircraft repairs, Harley Rider; then get interested in Engineering, did some school and retired in that trade 2006. |
